The National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) and Market Place joined forces to create NABMA Market Place. NICK RHODES

Nick joined Market Place after a long and happy period at Leicester City Council where he was Head of Markets and Enterprise. He has worked within the Markets industry for over 25 years.

Nick was responsible for managing a large City Centre indoor and outdoor market complex open six days a week offering over 350 stalls per day and a smaller 60 stall district market. Nick transformed Leicester market managing 3 large redevelopment programmes. The market twice was voted Britain’sFavourite Market Leicester Market is a very successful market and this year the public voted it ‘Britain’s Favourite Market’.

Nick’s previously held the title of President of the Institute of Market Officers. Nick also established himself as one of NABMA’s leading consultants undertaking over 30 market consultancy projects.

He is perhaps best known for publishing the industry recognised Rhodes Report the first national survey of UK Markets.

GRAHAM WILSON

Graham Wilson is currently Chief Executive of the National Association of British Market Authorities .Graham has held the position for over ten years and has been an officer of Nabma for almost thirty years and during his tenure the organisation has grown significantly both in membership and influence. A lawyer by profession he has represented many local authorities and market operators on market policies and procedures both in United Kingdom and European Courts. In addition to supporting Nabma Graham has advised the Local Government Association and central government on market issues. In 2012 he was awarded the OBE in recognition of his work supporting Retail Markets.

ALLAN HARTWELL

Allan has an infectious passion for keeping the tradition of market trading alive. He possesses a unique knowledge of retail and wholesale market operations throughout Europe.

Following a successful career in local Government where he was Head of the Commercial Services Division in Manchester City Council. Allan came to prominence in the industry when he organised the first ever European Market in the UK in Manchester July 1992. In 1994 he was appointed Chairman of the Association of Municipal Retail Markets attached to The World Union of Wholesale Markets a position he held until 1996. Allan has had an extremely successful track record in the management of retail and wholesale markets during the last 30 years.

Allan then moved into the private sector and has been instrumental in establishing Market Place as a leading market operator brand.

JACKIE CASEY

Formerly Bolton Market Manager, Jackie worked at Bolton Council for 25 years becoming Market Manager in 2009. During her time as Bolton Market Manager the service went from strength to strength winning a succession of awards including:

  • Retailer of the year at the Manchester Tourism Awards 2009
  • Best Indoor Market NABMA 2010
  • 5 a day supporter of the year at the Refresh Awards 2011
  • Best Food Market BBC Food Farming Awards 2011
  • Finalists in the MJ Achievement Awards 2012

Jackie also played a main role in delivery Bolton’s Food and Drink Festival which is now one of the Top Ten Festivals in the UK. Jackie was also part of the team that successfully delivered the 4.5million redevelopment of Bolton Market during 2014.

Jackie’s commitment to the industry was recognised when she was named Market Manager of the Year 2013 by the National Market Traders Federation (NMTF) and again in 2014 by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA).
